ELMHURST, Ill. – The North Dakota State University
volleyball team has been picked to finish sixth in The Summit League in 2014,
according to the poll of league head coaches released Thursday, Aug. 21.
NDSU returns 147 combined starts and 89 percent of the
total kills from last season’s team that qualified for the Summit League
Tournament.
After finishing runner-up in both the regular season and
league tournament a year ago, Denver was tabbed as the preseason favorite to
win the 2014 Summit League Volleyball Championship. The Pioneers received six
first-place votes to finish atop the preseason poll and return six of seven
starters.
Fort Wayne claimed second edging out IUPUI, the 2013
Summit League regular season and tournament champions, by one point with the
Jaguars receiving the final three first-place votes.
NDSU opens the 2014 season at the Panther
Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis., on Aug. 29-30 with matches against Miami
(Ohio), Milwaukee and Robert Morris. The Bison make their home debut Sept. 9
against North Dakota.
The top six teams in the regular season standings will
compete for The Summit League Volleyball Championship at The Jungle in
Indianapolis, Nov. 21-23. The tournament champion will earn the league’s
