GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota student-athletes have done it again.
UND Director of Athletics Brian Faison announced today that UND's 375 student-athletes combined for a 3.089 collective grade point average during the 2010-11 season.
For the second straight year, 13 of UND's 18 teams, including all 10 women's teams, achieved at least a 3.0 GPA during the academic year. The Fighting Sioux women's swimming and diving team boasted the department's highest GPA in 2010-11 at 3.476, followed by women's basketball (3.353), volleyball (3.313), tennis (3.285), women’s track and field (3.253), and men’s golf (3.230).
UND's 10 women's teams combined for a 3.228 GPA in 2010-11.
During the 2011 spring semester alone, 239 student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 GPA, accounting for just under 64 percent of UND’s total student-athlete population. Also, 222 of UND’s student-athletes boast a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Twenty-nine student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring, and 10 boast a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
Earlier this year, UND placed 110 student-athletes on the Great West Conference (GWC) and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) all-academic teams, including a team-record 16 men’s hockey student-athletes.
Additionally, UND’s women’s golf program received public recognition from the NCAA for its outstanding multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR). UND's APR ranked in the top 10 percent of all Division I women's golf programs, which accounts for the 2006-07 through 2009-10 academic years.
Also, the women’s swimming and diving program ranked fourth among the 89 NCAA Division I teams named to the 2010 College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All America Team in February.
