Vatthauer and Skwira Sign Instituitional Letters of Intent with Golden Eagle Softball

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Women’s Softball Coach Mitch Bakken announced today the signing of Brooke Vatthauer (Crookston, Minn.) and Stephanie Skwira (Holdingford, Minn.) to a UMC Institutional Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2011-12 season.

Vatthauer is a 5-5, utility player from Crookston High School. She was named the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player following the 2010 season and was named a 2011 team captain. Vatthauer plans to major in health sciences at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Janell and Bill Vatthauer.

Skwira is a 5-6, catcher from Holdingford High School in the Central Minnesota Conference (CMC). She was the 2008 team Rookie of the Year, 2009 Best Offensive Player, and 2010 Best Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player. Following the 2009 season, she was named a CMC All-Conference player. Following the 2010 season she was named a CMC All-Conference selection, an All-Section player, and was named to the All-Area team and to the All-State Honorable Mention team. Skwira is undeclared on a major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Marian and Dan Skwira.

“Brooke and Steph both bring great attitudes to the Golden Eagle Softball program,” says Head Coach Mitch Bakken. “They are both eager to learn, work hard and do whatever is needed to help them and the team compete and be successful at the Division II level and in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). I look forward to working with both of these players as they start their Golden Eagle Softball careers next year.”
