CROOKSTON,
Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department
announced the promotion of Kamille Wahlin to Assistant Athletic
Director/Senior Women’s Administrator in charge of Marketing and
Promotions. Wahlin, a native of Crookston, Minn., has spent the past two
seasons as an assistant coach for the UMC women’s basketball team and
will remain in that role, in addition to her new responsibilities.

are excited to be able keep someone of Kamille Wahlin’s character and
work ethic a part of the UMC family,” said Director of Athletics
Stephanie Helgeson. “We were impressed with Kamille’s vision for the
position
and excited to have someone who knows and loves UMC and the Crookston
community continue to be a part of our athletic department.”
In
addition to her duties as Senior Woman’s Administrator and the Director
of Marketing and Promotions, Wahlin will also be the advisor for the
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and NCAA Champs/Life Skills program.

am excited to take on this new role at UMC,” In my first two years on
campus I’ve enjoyed working with everyone in the department and on
campus. This new opportunity allows me to help the athletic department
as it continues to grow in a great direction. I want to thank Stephanie
and the committee for trusting me with this position.”
Wahlin
has been an integral part of Coach Mike Roysland’s coaching staff the
last two seasons, helping the Golden Eagles to unprecedented success.
The Golden Eagles finished third in the NSIC North during the 2013-14
and hosted UMC’s first-ever home playoff game, which they won against
Concordia University, St. Paul, to advance to the NSIC/Sanford Health
Tournament. Wahlin has also been responsible for helping tutor Alexa
Thielman, who has improved throughout her time in the Maroon and Gold,
earning All-NSIC First Team last season.
In addition to serving as assistant coach, Wahlin has also been in charge of running intramurals at UMC the past two years.
Prior to her return to her hometown, Wahlin was a four-year standout at the University of Iowa.
During
her time at Iowa, Wahlin was a 1,000 point scorer for the Hawkeyes and
averaged 11.7 point per game, 2.37 rebounds per game and 3.33 assists
per game. Wahlin is believed to be the first University of Iowa freshman
to record a double-double in her first career start as she tallied 14
points and 10 assists versus the University of Michigan Jan. 26, 2009.
During her career she connected on 230 three-pointers, which ranks
second in school history, third in assists and eighth in career scoring.
She was selected to the All-Big Ten Third Team as a sophomore and a
senior and the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention squad as a junior. She
broke the school record for three-pointers attempted in a single season
with 225 as a sophomore and tied the school mark for three’s made with
84. She served as a team captain as a sophomore, junior and senior.
During
her prep career at Crookston High School, Wahlin led the team to a
114-18 mark in four years including a third-place finish at the
Minnesota Class AA State Tournament as a senior in 2007-08 and a
second-place finish as a sophomore in 2005-06. She was a McDonald’s
All-American nominee, as well as a 2008 Miss Minnesota Basketball
finalist. Wahlin averaged 19.8 points, 6.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds as a
senior for the Pirates. She was a Coaches Association first team pick
and an Associated Press second team all-state pick during her senior
campaign.
Wahlin graduated from the University of Iowa in May of
2013. She is currently working toward her Master’s degree at University
of North Dakota.
